My story
I’m Matteo Fardin, founder of MF Nutrition Education & Coaching LLC. I’m a research associate, nutrition coach and personal trainer. I have been passionate about sports and exercise since I was little; I played soccer for 10 years and I had the opportunity to try out for Inter and Milan, two major soccer teams of Serie A in Italy. Unfortunately I didn’t make it so I had to adjust my goals and dreams. At that time, I was not a model student, but, throughout those years I developed a passion for exercise and my high school gym teacher convinced me to continue my education.
I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science at University of Ferrara in Italy where I finally discovered the passion for studying. Working in the fitness industry where there are clients always asking questions about nutrition made me want to learn more. The main question from clients was “how do I lose weight?”. At that time, I didn’t know a lot about weight loss, so I decided to study nutrition. I didn’t know much about the ways to achieve weight loss and the ways that would impact my clients. Through research, I became more passionate and decided to pursue a master’s degree in nutrition. I earned my master’s in Obesity and Clinical Nutrition at University College London in the UK with Distinction, and made the Dean’s List. This experience was empowering and enlightening - I learned so much more than just how to help people lose weight.
During that time, I quickly realized how nutrition information is often misinterpreted and how misinformation is spread. In some classes, my own ideas were proven wrong and I became much more critical about how I consume information; I learned how using evidence and research can help us serve our clients better. I use the word enlightening because the classes weren’t just about metabolic pathways, but also social factors like weight stigma that people living with obesity go through every day.
These are the two main reasons why I decided to start MF Nutrition Education & Coaching LLC; I want to help people reach their goals using the most current evidence, and to help everyone feel accepted, with no judgement. I want to reach as many people as I can, and especially those that are afraid to reach out for help because they feel the pain of weight stigma.
That being said, I’m not a registered dietitian therefore I am not allowed to conduct a nutrition therapy interventions with people that have specific diseases and that’s not the purpose of this company.
My goal is to educate people about nutrition and exercise to improve their lifestyle, dietary habits and having a healthy relationship with food which will ultimately improve people’s health and wellbeing.
